Anyone read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?

I have recently re-read it after about 25 years. And its a wonderful book, but some aspects of it are relevent to our position.

The author talks about the "Church of Reason" and his time as a University professor, when the University was being forced to accept anyone who applied and award degrees to everyone. The discussion was about "what or where is the the real University?" is it the books, is it the buildings, is it the licence awarded by the state? The conclusion was that the real University exists in the minds of those that are members - lecturers and professors in the case of the University. Nowhere else. You could relocate the University to a cowshed, but it is what is in the minds of the people who believe in it that is the real essence of the University.

So it is with football. The real ITFC is not the actual PR stadium, it is not the current players, management or Directors. It is us, the fans, and it is what we believe is the real ITFC. This current mess is transient. Evans will go (sooner or later) McCarthy will go (hopefully sooner), and we might get a manager who wants to play the Ipswich way. We all know what it is. It will outlive them all, even if we go down a league, the true ITFC will return someday, because it is in us all.

Poll: would you rather
