Yesterday’s thoughts & Lambert 12:13 - Oct 28 with 835 viewsIPSWICHFANITFC

I was at the game yesterday and the clear difference between us and Millwall was the identity Millwall have about their style, the men vs boys physical outcome & Lee Gregory being the sharpest player on the pitch. That being said, there were positives.

Dozzell looked bright, kept things moving and was showing and demanding for the ball. Tried the killer pass a couple of times, both unlucky not to come off but to be greeted with sarcastic jeers really sums us up as a support at times.

Downes gave a good account of himself - a couple of times he could’ve driven forward with the ball after a neat interchange in midfield and chose to play the ball wide, but apart from that, he played well.

I thought Chalobah was comfortable in a back 3. Composed on the ball and wasn’t afraid to take the ball wide either. Elliott/Gregory an old school partnership and he didn’t really seem too uncomfortable except aerially.

Apart from that, Lankester looked bright when he came on but that’s about it on those who can come out of it with a bit of praise.

Our biggest downfall were our wing backs, Ward and Knudsen, who really struggle with the ball. Jackson also looks like he doesn’t have an understanding of the game at this level. Skuse too negative to push the ball forward more. Bialkowski adrift off last seasons form.

Tough job for Lambert until January with the current strike force, but until january he’s got to create an identity about this Ipswich side; make us organised, more compact defensively and stop leaking silly goals. January will need investment at the top end, but whether funds will be available, who knows. Target man is clear - I would look at Tom Eaves from Gillingham, looks like a good physical presence and gets goals for a struggling Gillingham.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

Think Lambert needs to look higher than the lower divisions for a target man. Hurst tried the lower divisions - because that is all he knew - and it backfired.

As least with Lambert he knows how to spend money, Hurst didn't as he had never had that sort of cash to play with.

Hopefully Lambert has enough contacts in the game to get a couple of decent pros in
