Midfield 3 and Idris El Mizouni 09:29 - Aug 26 with 783 viewsIPSWICHFANITFC

I actually enjoyed watching Downes, Dozzell and Bishop together. I thought the 3 of them bring a nice balance to midfield and we definitely look a much better footballing side. Some of the passes Dozzell can see and execute are so natural you can't teach. I would love to see him start the season for us.

I enjoyed watching El Mizouni too - he's a player who knows what he's going to do with the ball before he receives it. I would like to keep him rather than loan him out, he would be a good wildcard option.

Poll: If selling Jackson meant getting in a wide man, would you be happy with Garbutt?

I enjoy watching him, but not out wide. He looks as though he does his best work centrally, and we really are spoilt for choice in there this year.

Interesting to see who is going to grab their spots, for me its 2 alongside Downes. Bishop and Judge have had good pre seasons I think, Huws and Nolan did well yesterday, El Mizouni was very good against Col U.

Staggering the amount of options we have in there.

Downes, Dozzell, Bishop, Huws, Judge, Nolan and Skuse

Dobra, Edwards, Sears, Lankester, El Mizouni

Am I missing anyone? A lot of options for a 3 man midfield and 2 wide men. I'm not sure who gets the nod first game of the season.

I think Downes and Bishop will start, but I'm not sure who will take the third spot in midfield. I think Edwards and Sears may take the wide roles but I would personally like to see Lankester/Edwards and Dobra if it was me.

McGavin even further down for the future.

Think thats 8 possible CM options and 4 wide men options.

Bishop - Downes - Huws I think is how it could go, but wouldn't be surprised either if was Judge in there, I think he's had a really good pre season in CM Judge, suits him at his age.

Wide options, I agree, would be Edwards/Lankester for me, but could equally be Sears/Dobra, have so much fire power going forward at this level.

Looking forward to see who is going to step up and take their spot.

A lot depends on keeping Downes , to give the midfield some steel . I like the idea of some younger players in there . Downes , Dozzell & Bishop worked well yesterday .

I wonder if the club could set something up with Cambridge where we are able to loan a couple out to them - I certainly feel like McGavin and Ndaba would be two loan deals that suit all parties involved.

Could well be Bishop - Downes - Huws. Again, would be a nice balance in there. I'd be interested to see Judge and Bishop in a 3 from the start, but can't see PL giving up the physical battle for that.

PL likes Sears on the left but I would rather see Dobra. Edwards and Sears will bring more goals to the team but Dobra and Lankester will make us more interesting on the eye.

I wonder if Jackson is off too?

Downes is important, but I'm not sure on him anchoring a midfield 3. Downes is better as a box to box midfielder, getting in to people’s faces and getting about the pitch. If he can remain disciplined in a holding role then brilliant - but we would get the best out of Downes as a box to box midfielder.
