Travel in Porto 18:13 - Jul 7 with 640 viewsearlsgreenblue

Flying in & out, picking up our car rental & driving the Douro then returning car to the airport before heading in to the old city centre for a 4 day stay, I’m confused.com as to which travel card to get, I will use the metro to & from the airport, & probably trams & metro etc once I’m there.
We are staying in the Aliados 150m from that metro stop so very central.
Also like the idea of red & yellow hop on - off buses, all advice greatly received. Obrigado, Marcus.

Airport to city centre is very easy, think I must have bought a ticket beforehand but you probably only need to get a single or return as most of the city centre is easily walkable.

Enjoy anyway, I really liked it and should go back soon.

You can buy the Metro tickets on arrival at the metro station in the airport, there was a very helpful member of station staff telling you what you need. Personally I just needed a return ticket between the airport and the city which was about 5 or 6 Euros.

The city is very walkable I wouldn't bother with the Metro unless there is something specific you want to see outside the city.

It's true that Porto is great to walk around (although you do need to keep a bit of an eye out for the traffic than most other places in Portugal) but if you have limited mobility it might be an idea to find a ticket that includes the lift up and down to the Duoro. A part of the city definitely not to be missed, especially if you like tasting high quality port but a lot of steps:

Also make sure you have a look at the tiling in the rail station just on the north side of the bridge, stupendous even for Portugal.
