Our use of Delap 14:08 - Oct 6 with 1302 viewsArnieM

He's a monster of a striker isnt he! But I'm wondering if we could/ should be looking to mix up our play a bit more?

We like to build from the back, and that , at this level has its risks whjch were all too apparent yesterday. Muric has a good pass on him to Davis which we used a few times in the first half, so why not the longer, accurate pass to the exorcet missile, that Delap is, to catch thd defenders out. I'm not saying too do this at every opportunity, but mix it up occasionally and utilise all of Delaps strengths. It would also reduce these soft gift goals that we appear at risk of giving away as we get the ball away from our own box quicker. Thoughts?

I have wondered - despite his current goal scoring form in the central position - if it might be worth trying Delap on the right and bringing Hirst back in the middle. Delap can take on players exceptionally well and might drag defenders out wide for Hirst in the middle to have more space and create more link up play with the Hutch/Chappers/Clarkes of the team - which I feel like Hirst still does better than Delap at the moment.

I had advocated bringing Hirst back in up front because he's so good at bringing other players into the game. It's no coincidence some the of the front three had a reduction in scoring once Hirst went out injured last Dec.

I'm not convinced Burns is offering much wide right and Delap instead might be another option and hopefully Hirst back up front. But is he fully fit yet? And the other thing is it's a tough call to disrupt Delap with his current scoring record.

Maybe the international break will give McK a chance to mull things over, even if he hasn't got many of the players about to try other options.
