Taken from the Brentford Forum Massive injury crisis 2 keepers on the bench Delap only on the bench Morsy (club captain) missing completely and no hutchinson which is huge. 0-1. We deserved that, we've been dismal. 0-2 We are making some incredibly average players look a lot better than they are. Pinnock completely missing there. Szmodics, ffs rotten start. Im listening to the match from my flat next to the stadium due to illness and have to say their fans are very loud. I assumed we scored both times based on how loud the celebrations were. cmon boys need to step it up Awful defending. We've not started it seems. 2 well taken goals though. 1-2. Wisssaaaaaaaa 2-2. Never in doubt. Bees fans please don’t hate me, I think that’s really harsh. Started outside How much have we paid Harry Clarke? Cheers mate 3-3 It is a good goal. We should have put this game away by now though. Get in!!!! Football, bloody hell. Ipswich nearly equalise....phew! Just what we need but feel for Ipswich. Side note - full credit to Ipswich. I hope they stay up and said at the start of the season they had made some decent signings and have an astute young manager. Certainly no pushover as a few on here seemed to think back in August. Can see Ipswich giving plenty of sides problems in the first half of games. They go hard and fast and chase down everything, but maintain their discipline as well, they are obviously well coached and every player knows their role in their side. By contrast, we didn’t look “at it” and it felt like we were maybe expecting an easier ride. However the naivety in their game plan was apparent as time went on. They clearly don’t have the fitness levels to play with that kind of intensity for 90 minutes. They had all the hallmarks of a side with waining levels of energy and concentration: giving up a lead, giving away penalties and red cards in the second half, and then conceding late. In that second half, in truth, despite being lopsided in our lineup we still had by far the better of it - and ought to have raced into a 4-2 or 5-2 lead well before the end - and that would have been that. To credit the opposition they dug in and got that third goal against the run of play which made our victory “dramatic” but the better side definitely won. Also agree about Ipswich, was very impressed by how well they were coached - they really knew how to stifle us in the first half, but over 99 odd minutes their players not as good as ours. Compare McKenna to Ten Hag and you can see why United are failing so badly Not sure what I would make of that as an Ipswich fan. We were flat first 30 mins. They were more lively but until they scored (and scored again) I didn't feel they carried much of a threat. Had they scored the third they should have then things could have been very different. Then we started to play. The 1-2 goal showed that we could carve them open if only we could summon up some momentum. In truth we could have been 3-2 up at half time. The penalty and red card moved things our way and we should have scored more. It was clear they would get a chance and Davis's ball to Delap was top class. I was gutted that it looked like we had thrown two points away but then fine margins - Bryan's cross going in and Delap's shot coming back of the post gave us the points. A strange display all round. I thought KLP was very good. It was him driving at the defence that caused Ipswich problems. In truth they had been comfortable for 40 mins. From Ipswich's point of view, it is a game they should have won from 2-0 up, could have lost 2-6, nearly heroically clawed back a draw, then their keeper threw it all away. We can certainly play better but I am travelling home very happy with the points. If Delap was fit to play then the decision not to start him was a major blunder by McKenna. Aside from the game, a fight broke out on the Webridge bound platform just before 7pm, one guy ended up on the tracks upside down. I didn't see what started it, but speaking to a couple on the bridge from Ipswich, argument across the platforms. Then the Ipswich fans ran over to fight the Brentford fans. From what they said, they weren't surprised who was involved from Ipswich. All seemed absolutely pointless. I thought Ipswich gave it a fair go, but they’re where they are for a reason. If we’d won 1-0 instead of 4-3, our goal difference would have been the same but our goals ‘for’ would have been lower, so looking at the result that way makes it better. We had lots of the ball in the second half with plenty of near misses and could easily have put the game out of their reach but we seem to concede goals from seemingly innocuous situations, which is concerning for those of a nervous disposition, like me. I noticed that the player (don’t remember his name), after scoring Ipswich’s second goal, looked at the West End’s dumbfounded Bees fans with look of incredulity as if to say ‘Look at how much space I had!’ “A team like Ipswich” ? How many times have we read others refer to us in a similar vein? Well, a team like Ipswich, who were in fact Ipswich, played bloody well for 40 minutes and gave a pretty good account of themselves. We’ve only been in the PL 5 minutes ourselves. We’re not Billy Big *ollocks! Well said. I thought Ipswich were decent and definitely better than a number of sides that have come to the Gtech since we've been in the PL. Ipswich were a lot better than I expected them to be. Pressed us well, played with intensity and won the 50/50 balls first half. They tired I think and we stepped it up second half. | |
