Jim Al-Khalili is interviewing Professor Neil Ferguson on 'The Life Scientific' at the moment, interesting:

Wasn't he 'Professor Leg-Over' according to some sections of the press not so long ago. Surely if he is going to preach one thing but do another that's not a recipe for success.

His indiscretion and the press treatment do get a couple of minutes, and I am not convinced that he appreciates public perception either. It does go to show that there is a lunatic fringe to the British press...and that fringe is more than half of the display. I guess that means that the mainstream media were 1990s indie well before the time and are clinging on like ancient hippies and punks.

But the programme is really about the modelling and how science is communicated to the public.

I heard the first part of that and it was really interesting. Then had to join a meeting so need to remember to go back to it.

After listening to Neil Ferguson on 'The Life Scientific' I find this snippet of news particularly interesting:

Not least because the alleged confusion about the message as received by academics and health professionals leaves me wondering how the rest of us stand a chance of knowing what to do for the best.
