Evans statement very revealing 21:04 - Dec 3 with 439 viewsjasondozzell

I liked Mick and he did a great job when he arrived to rescue us and then build a play off side with no budget. 14/15 was fun. But the football became awful and, let's not kid ourselves, almost unwatchable over following seasons. Aged blokes in midfield doing crab impressions. Skuglas land.

Evans saying he doesn't want to 'make the same mistake again', and the implied suggestion that the supporters were wrong to bring things to a head shows what we've long suspected really. He was very happy for Mick to keep us in champ, spending nothing and treading water. I can understand why - football finances have left him behind. But it's totally disingenuous to give impression that we were making any progress or things were in good state under Mick at end and that we were wrong to ask for more. Lincoln in the cup should have been the end. Privately Mick would surely admit that if you swap Murphy for an over the hill Leon Best, you're not really serious about promotion.

Evans bought the club as a business investment. He didn't buy it because he loved it. There are far worse owners, we know that. But what we're seeing is his 'managed retreat' strategy clashing with our (very reasonable!) demand to see some progress, feel that the club is trying to improve and achieve something.
