Wimbledon Preview - Takeaways 15:39 - Aug 27 with 692 viewsTomTheWriter

Thought I'd start something for each week of key instances and moments from the opposition forums that don't make it into the preview.

1) Joe Pigott has caused a very big, 50/50 split in the Wimbledon fanbase. Half are disappointed to see him go because of everything he did for them, and essentially his goals keeping them in the league. However, the other half see him as 'replaceable' - not happened yet - and don't expect him to have a big impact at the club. Not a target man, needs the ball at his feet. Would like to see a Pigott - Fraser pair at some point tomorrow.

2) Ayoub Assal is their danger man, but has a big issue with temperament (remind you of a certain Albanian circa 19/20 season). More bookings than goals this season, was blamed for their late concession of the goal against Bolton despite them being down to 10 men. If Burgess, Woolf, Evans lays one on him early, it could rile him for the rest of the game, and he is very hot-headed when that happens.

3) Kyle Edwards vs Henry Lawrence will be the decider. AFCW fans rave about this guy, see him as Championship quality already. Flying right back who likes to bomb on. Probably will be Edwards' toughest opponent so far, and if he can get the better of him then we have a really dangerous player on our hands.

4) Down our right is key; their left is biggest weakness. Fans not convinced by Guinness-Walker and Osew as full-backs defensively, with Alexander being primarily right footed. Burns and KVY connection could be the key tomorrow, whoever they play at LB.

5) They realise they need to spread the goals, the attack isn't great. Palmer is a big lad but not potent like Pigott. Pressley has failed to impress so far. Mebude is dangerous, but plays 'Me 1st, Team 2nd."

Hope you guys like the preview, thinking of doing something like this for each game because I can't fit everything into the previews. Cheers.

Great stuff Tom. Would be interested in your thoughts on how these 'takeaways' played out.

Cheers Pablo,

Think I got a fair few bang on from the looks of it.

I asked for Pigott-Fraser combo and they delivered, even if the pair didn't do much together. Can see why AFCW fans were a bit 50/50 on him - he will score goals, but needs to do a bit more up top.

Assal is their most exciting talent, but didn't get involved much in the game. Maybe one of the players mentioned did lay one on him!

Edwards and Lawrence were neither dominant nor ineffective, so looks like they cancelled each other out. As expected, both top players who could handle the other.

Down our right/their left was what I identified, and I guess Paul Cook did the same. Very good from PC there.

Sharing goals. CB and winger getting their first goals of the season against us.
