I think it’s a reasonable assumption that Putins annexation of the Crimea in 2014 was a pre cursor to recent events, giving another front / forward base to attack from.
My thoughts on this having done a little research are, simply the sanctions imposed have done little but accentuate the problem in as much as, confirming Putins assessment that whatever is imposed will be weak & short lived & therefore well worth the risk!
On another note, a quick look at “flight radar” confirms commercial aircraft flights from Moscow in & out of Sharm El Sheik, Cancun etc so the long & short of it is not enough is being done globally to hurt the Russian populous & subsequently the government.
