Only got to see them once twenty odd years ago, but he still had that cool New York swagger. One of the pioneers of the genre that helped shape my entire worldview.

A real shame and one of my favourite bands. The last surviving member of the original line-up.

Boy, did they have attitude, and I loved this quote about them.

"Their music always sounded as if it was about to fall apart at any second. Takes a lot of skill to play like that. They were brilliant."

This song (by Wayne County) which I hadn't heard for ages, popped up on my Spotify feed last week.

It is a homage to Max's Kansas City (a haunt of the Dolls) and name checks them (as well as other New York artists from that era).
