Capitalism dressed up as environmentalism 08:09 - Aug 3 with 693 views | Zx1988 | I'm off on holiday next week, and got an email from my hotel this morning. Alongside the usual content about early check-in etc., I was politely informed that my room will not be cleaned during the whole of my seven-night stay, unless I request it at reception between 1pm and 3pm the previous day - all in the name of saving the environment. I f**king hate this. Just be up front and say that you've identified housekeeping as an area where you can easily cut back on costs, rather than dressing it up as some sort of green move. Rant over.

I agree with you on towels, definitely. It's the way it's slowly got harder and harder to get room cleaning that makes the intention painfully obvious. Leave your towels on the floor... Put the sign on the door... Ask at reception... Ask at reception at inconvenient times... I'm betting it won't be long until housekeeping becomes a paid add-on.

I'd much rather have my room cleaned every day if it means someone actually gets to do their job and get paid. Especially if people losing jobs/money thanks to 'environmentalism' is going to play right into the hands of Farage and his ilk come election time. [Post edited 3 Aug 8:55]

Was it booked through and agent or booking site? I would complain and leave a review afterwards on Tripadvisor (what are the reviews like?).

Four star hotel from what I gather to be a decent European chain. I assume it's franchisee-operated, like so many chain hotels these days. Reviews are decent as well, so I'll see how it functions in real life when I get there.

4 star!! They are there to serve you and you should be able to ask questions of reception 24x7, not in a narrow time window. I would expect them to visit the room daily and to change the towels if you have left them on the floor (fair enough not to change them every day if you don't want them to).

It's quite standard to be honest, not that I'm a fan. I stay in hotels across Europe most weeks, and this is not uncommon, regardless of the star rating.
Capitalism dressed up as environmentalism on 10:08 - Aug 3 with 215 views | Zx1988 | If I'd have wanted to spend a week cleaning my own room, and screwing over local low-paid workers, I'd have booked an AirBnB.
