Crowd were very quiet today 20:56 - Aug 17 with 2953 viewsCopfordBlue

Hopefully it was just the midday kick off. In our promotion seasons the crowd were a factor in the late goals, borderline decisions in our favour, digging in in those final minutes etc. Other than the stadium being full, today was reminiscent of the atmosphere during the Marcus Evans era.

I wondered if they’d done something with the mics on the sky stream. You could hear the players but barely a peep from the stands for large parts.

It was very quiet in the ground for most of the game. A bit of noise when the ref made a few of his many poor decisions but in terms of chanting and the general atmosphere it was very subdued.

Atmosphere was a bit better than I was expecting tbh. Midday Sunday absolutely stinks as a kick off time.

The pubs weren't much better, either, afterwards.

Did everyone have to rush home for their 3pm Sunday Roast?

I agree but we’ve had some great atmospheres in recent seasons for early kick offs.

A bit, fanbase still reeling a bit from outgoings over the last couple of weeks, new players to form relationships with. Saints were also quiet. Second half gave us something to grab onto!

Early kickoffitis maybe. Although we’re yet to find our groove, so we’re probably just back at normal PR levels. We’ve never been the most outgoing crowd except for some notable exceptions.

“Home fans roaring them on” said the Saints journo. Sunday midday will always be a bit flat, surely?

Apart from the Liverpool game and maybe the Norwich game when has there been a good atmosphere for an early game?

Early games are shîte all round let alone for atmosphere.

12 noon on a Sunday is the absolute worst and 12:30 on a Saturday the next worst but slightly better.

I wasn’t there but it didn’t sound too bad on the TV.

Our end was better first half, Southampton’s better in the second.

That’s my point. Going back as far as Sir Bobby with his “zombies” comments and up until recently I’ve always been quite envious of the atmosphere at a lot of grounds with a similar size fan base and capacity to our own but for a few years it’s been excellent. Today felt like a return to the Portman Road atmosphere of old. The tifo was really good today. The irritating new (ish) bloke with the microphone doesn’t help and the pre-match music is a bit tired and predictable. Hopefully it was the early kick off and things will get back to the new normal.

When we scored and were then on the front foot for 10
minutes there was some noise and encouragement but as soon as Southampton settled and for the rest of the game it was quiet with the exceptions of a penalty appeal and a couple of near misses. I’m just calling it as I see (and hear) it. It was quiet and there was very little encouragement given to the team.

We are nowhere near as good as we were two seasons ago.

Momentum, keeper/defence who can play out, Chappers needs to start, team needs to start winning..

All need to come back for the crowd to trust the team again. Plenty of time for this to build back up.

Part of it depends on where you are in the ground. I’ve moved seats this season and am sitting North Stand side of the directors box and I thought the atmosphere was pretty good. Plenty from the NS - couldn’t hear anything of the Southampton people.

The crowd was never the loudest and the acoustics of NS is poor thanks to its design. What’s nice was the crowd was not hammering the players in the way a significant number on here are. They stayed with the team.

It was an enjoyable game despite us not being a proper team at the moment and a draw from a match we might have won.

I agree that it’s generally quieter with early kick offs. Blue Action did their bit with the tifo but to me it just felt very flat, even more than usual for an early kick off. Our next two are a 3pm Saturday and then a Friday night so hopefully the stadium atmosphere will revert back to what it was in our promotion seasons. Let’s me honest, games from last February to the end of last season were close to pre-season friendlies so it’s hard to get excited. I’m just hoping that the poor home form over the last year hasn’t killed what had become a really good, noisy, home support.

In answer to your question - Huddersfield, 4th May 2024 wasn’t too bad!

I could hear the crowd from my dad's house on Stoke Park.

I was in sir Alf Upper and thought it got better in the second half, thankfully there was no booing but a noon kickoff and let's be honest a premier league relegation handle over, a lack of confidence and no home win since...let's not go there didn't help. Also too early for a pre-match beer, lots of pies and sandwiches being eaten near me.

I was in the West, I mean Brittania today and it's noticeably qt in there. What struck me on my way to the ground and on my way out was the amount of family groups, I've never noticed it like this before. On one hand a great advert and sign of a (checks notes) "Community Club" but on the other hand, well, I'm not sure.

I thought it might be to do with losing Morsy, Broadhead, Delap, Hutchinson, Luongo means there’s no player chants left. We need some new ones.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

It was really loud today in moments. My watch told me twice if I remain in the same area I would likely end up with damage to my ears.

At least "someone" is looking out for me, I guess.

I was sat in Cobbold C block, and the atmosphere creates by Blue Action was great. Sure, it has been louder, but it was lovely to hear the new Jens Cajuste song. Also can't wait for Dara's song to get properly going.

This plus the early kick off time. Literally all the best chants are now null & void.

I mean what player names are even being chanted to Mckennas song these days??

I walked down to the waterfront after the game and couldn’t believe how rammed every boozer was, Isaacs pumping!

A lot of burnt sunday roasts yesterday!

RIP Sir Bobby
