This seems a retrograde step, as it is the comments which I find both addictive and enlightening in the sense of picking up on the views of readers, just as I like to look at the best rated comments on the Mail site.
Here is the note to readers but I think it will make Politics Live much less appealing, although I've never commented myself.
"I’m afraid I have some bad news; from the end of next week, we will no longer be opening comments on the Politics Live blog.

But having comments open on a blog like Politics Live, which regularly attracts more than 4,000 comments a day, is extremely, extremely resource-intensive. Comments need to be moderated and, as the Guardian’s online content has expanded over the last 16 years, there are more and more places elsewhere on our website where moderators are also needed.
