If these great houses are so troubled by the burden of matches, surely let them be drawn against one another? One shall be cast from the cup and thus suffer no further fixture congestion, whilst the survivor hath one less foe to trouble them Yet nay, we must make way for them whilst they journey ten thousand miles across the realm in summer, only to return and proclaim themselves weary. Meanwhile, we shall send forth our young colts and apprentices, with naught but a tractor to carry our provisions, and I see little reason why the cup should not find its way back to Suffolk. Normal service resumes in R3. I don't mind it tbh, seems like its more due to the practicality of the scheduling rather than preventing them drawing each other. Or maybe I'm being taken for a fool.

It's being done to please the sponsors. Separating the big clubs makes it far ore likely that they will reach the semi finals & final, hence attracting larger TV audiences & more publicity.
