Two New Arrivals at Ipswich as Our Friendly Games Near Friday, 25th Jul 2025 12:10 Following on from Ipswich Town's short but semi-enjoyable dalliance with the Premier League in the 2024/25 campaign, the Tractor Boys faithful are now turning their attentions to life back in the second tier and the Championship
We already know that it will likely be a much-changed starting XI for manager Kieran McKenna this year as there have already been a few ins and outs with the summer transfer window well and truly open.
There were the early window departures of both young talent Liam Delap and the more experienced Cameron Burgess, and the £30 million fee received from Chelsea for the 22-year-old striker will go a hell of a long way in plugging the financial revenue gap that exists between the two divisions when it comes to balancing the budget.
With a few other departures with Axel Tuanzebe and Massimo Luongo moving on, Town were always likely to add a few new fresh faces for the campaign ahead and with experienced goalkeeper David Button having arrived, last couple of week have seen the arrivals of Cedric Kipre on a loan spell, Azor Matusiwa and veteran former England international Ashley Young.
For fans who like a flutter on new season predictions, they will be pouring over the odds already available, but with football still a few weeks off, plenty of others will be enjoying their online gaming given the choices offered by bitcoin online casinos, but they will certainly be staying very aware about the latest football moves being made.
Twenty-seven-year-old Dutchman Matusiwa comes in from French side Rennes and although it is officially an undisclosed fee, it’s understood Town have parted with £7.8 million for the former Netherlands U21 international defensive midfielder.
Having come through the famous Ajax youth academy, Matusiwa has garnered great game time following spells with Groningen, Reims and Rennes, and many believe that he will be a good success at Portman Road when he adjusts to the nature of the English game.
Having featured 29 times for the Ligue 1 side in the 2024/25 campaign, he has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Portman Road.
Kipre will be far better known by Ipswich Town fans having already had good experience of the English game and the second tier in particular. The once-capped Ivory Coast international defender came through French giants Paris Saint-Germain's youth system before making the move to Leicester City in 2014.
Whilst he did not make a senior debut for the Foxes, in spells with Motherwell, Wigan Athletic, West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City he went on to make well over 200 league appearances in the years that followed.
Having made the switch back to France and Reims this time last summer, he went on to feature 34 times for them across all domestic competitions last year, and he makes the move to Town on a season-long loan spell with the French side confirming that the deal does include an optional buy clause should the Blues wish to make the deal permanent next summer.
With plenty of player rumours still swirling around in the media, Town fans should be able to expect at least a couple of move new arrivals, and then business will most likely be determined by further departures.
With pre-season training well under way, and the pre-season friendly warm-up campaign in full flow, the Championship season for real kicks off on August 8th as the Blues travel to newly promoted Birmingham City to renew old battles.
