McGreal to Return?
McGreal to Return?
Sunday, 13th Aug 2006 21:51

Former Blue John McGreal has been linked with a return to Town by a Sunday tabloid. Elsewhere, two new clubs are reported to have joined the chase for Sam Parkin and Matteo Sereni is claimed to be on his way to West Ham.

McGreal, now 34, has been left on the bench in each of Burnley's three games so far this season, but is still likely to be in manager Steve Cotterill's plans having been a linchpin of the Clarets' defence since leaving Portman Road in the summer of 2004.

The ex-Tranmere man has a year left on his deal at Turf Moor and is likely to command a fee.

Preston and Derby are the latest clubs to be linked with Sam Parkin. The frontman is already being chased by Brighton, while Coventry's interest is unlikely to be as dead as manager Micky Adams recently claimed.

West Ham United have been linked with a £1 million move for ex-Town keeper Matteo Sereni, a move which, if true, could see the Blues land a very unexpected windfall. When the keeper left Portman Road for Lazio in the summer of 2003, the Blues are understood to have negotiated a 50% sell-on clause, along with two friendlies, the first of which was finally played last month.

More locally, TWTD understands that the Blues are set to take Bury Town captain Ian Miller on a two-week trial. The central defender impressed in the recent friendly between the two clubs. Miller, 22, previously played a number of trial games for the Town U19s a few years back.
