Saturday, 7th Oct 2006 19:59

Striker Alan Lee won his ninth international cap, and his first while a Blue, as the Republic of Ireland slumped to a 5-2 defeat to Cyprus in Nicosia.

Lee was introduced as a 71st minute substitute as the Irish went chasing the game.

Elsewhere, Lewis Price was left on the bench as Wales lost 5-1 at home to Slovakia, but may be in with a shout of a return to the side when the face Cyprus in Cardiff after a disastrous display from Paul Jones.

Town will continue to have to wait for a top-up windfall from Darren Bent's first competitive appearance for England, the Charlton striker was again unused by Steve McClaren.
