Boss Jim Magilton is likely to hand Billy Clarke his third Town start when Luton visit Portman Road for Sunday's live Sky game (KO 1.15pm, Sky Sports One). Loanee frontman Jon Macken is out for at least two games with a hamstring injury.

The Town management have been reluctant to overexpose Clarke at this early stage of his career but in Macken's absence, and after another fine display at Southend, the Irish youngster will get the nod.

Clarke will partner Alan Lee but is likely to be replaced by either Danny Haynes, just back from his month at Millwall, or Dean Bowditch at some stage in the second half. Haynes or Bowditch may be given a start at Plymouth on Tuesday depending on Clarke's level of tiredness after Sunday.

Shane Supple will start in goal with Lewis Price sidelined with his broken rib. Trialist Jaroslav Drobný is expected to agree a short-term deal in order to take a place among the substitutes.

With no new loan signing so far forthcoming, the Blues are unlikely to be changed at the back with Dan Harding on the left, Fabian Wilnis on the right and Jason De Vos and Alex Bruce in the centre.

Loanee midfielder Mark Noble misses out having reached five bookings, while Sylvain Legwinski continues to suffer with a recurring groin injury but is not likely to be sidelined. Noble also picked up a groin problem at Southend last week but is expected to be OK for Tuesday's trip to Plymouth.

With Gavin Williams not yet ready for a return after his groin operation and Owen Garvan still out with his virus, Simon Walton is expected come into the side for Noble. Jaime Peters will continue on the right, while Jim Magilton will have to choose between Matt Richards and Gary Roberts on the left.

Klug says he wants the Blues to lose the inconsistency which has dogged recent performances: “The players are facing up to what they have to do in order to reach a higher standard, but in terms of results and how we have played in games we have been inconsistent. There is no point in us trying to deny it.

“We were good in the first half against Preston but it didn't last and although we again played some good football at Southend, we tailed off a little bit when they scored.

“What we must try to do is to make our good spells last longer and we have also been working hard to make ourselves more difficult to break down.”

Luton were struck down by a flu bug earlier this week and Finnish central defender Markus Heikkinen is still a doubt after missing the 4-0 Carling Cup defeat at Everton.

Another defender Russell Perrett also missed the Everton game but is expected to be OK. Midfielder Lewis Emanuel is over a hamstring problem, while defender Chris Coyne is back in training after a knee injury. Paul Underwood is ill and striker Calvin Andrew has a long-term knee problem.

Former Blue Sam Parkin, who has scored once in his first eight appearances for the Hatters, is expected to miss out with an ankle problem.

Sunday's referee is Iain Williamson from Berkshire who has shown 43 yellow and three red cards in 11 games this season. His last Town game was the 2-1 home defeat to Brighton in April.
