Loanee winger Gary Roberts was the man who most impressed the watching Sir Bobby Robson during the Blues' 3-1 derby victory over Norwich City on Sunday. The club president was back at Portman Road for the first time since his recent cancer operation.

Robson said: "My man of the match was Roberts. Norwich could not get him under control. The lad can play and I was very impressed.

"If Ipswich play like that they should have no problems.

"They can move up to the higher echelons of the Championship and who knows where they could go from there."

Meanwhile, skipper Jason De Vos has defended midfielder Matt Richards, once again on the end of abuse from his own fans at the weekend: "He sometimes gets unfairly treated by the fans, who do not always understand what goes on.

"It is Matt who does the dirty work and runs his heart out. He gives us balance and has great character and determination."
