Boss Jim Magilton felt his side deserved something from their 1-0 defeat to Sunderland at Stadium of Light. Magilton confirmed that he is looking to add a striker to his squad during January.

Magilton said: “I thought we should have had something. When you come to the Stadium of Light you know you are going to get a pounding but we battered them in the second half.

"We started quite brightly but they got the goal and that helped to settle them. We didn't close them down quickly and I am very disappointed about the goal we conceded.

"Alan Lee thought he should have had a penalty when the goalkeeper bundled him over, but the referee did not give it so we have to take our medicine and get on with it.

"We have come away with no points again after playing particularly well and we do need another striker to play alongside Lee.

"We are aware that our goals record has not been good lately and it's an area that we are looking at strengthening.

"We are searching for a new striker. Danny Haynes and Billy Clarke are both going to be good players, but we need another frontman in.

"Danny was unlucky not to score. It took a great clearance to stop him and overall we deserved to get an equaliser.”

Sunderland boss Roy Keane says consistency is the key for his team: "We've just got to keep going. There are 18 games left and there's going to be a lot of ups and downs for every team. We've got to keep the pressure on them.

"The conditions were atrocious and perhaps Ipswich adapted to them better than us. We have played well this season and not got the result, but we had a good desire and there was a determination from everybody.

"I asked the players for an early goal but after that we could not get to grips with the game, though we could have had five penalties. I knew it was an important day with three lads making their home debut but we've dug deep and got the result."
