Town have named a new trophy in honour of former club vice-president Harold Smith, who died last year. The Harold Smith Trophy for Most Promising Academy Player will be awarded each season to the youngster showing greatest promise in the Town youth set-up.

Chairman David Sheepshanks said: “This is a fitting tribute to a man who truly loved his football and specifically Ipswich Town Football Club.

"Harold took a keen interest in youth football and derived great pleasure in following the careers of our Academy players. I am sure that he would be very proud to have such a trophy presented in his name. “

Smith died in August last year, aged 89. He spent 31 years as a club director from 1964 to 1995 and was named a vice-president after leaving the board.

Town have also given two complimentary season tickets in Smith's name to the Park House Hotel in Sandringham, which provides disabled guests and carers with holiday accommodation.
