Released Town defender Aidan Collins has joined Cambridge United on a non-contract basis. The 20-year-old has moved to the Conference side for an initial one-month spell.

Collins was originally told he could leave the Blues a year ago but was given a second chance by the new management team. However, after returning from knee surgery, the former Wycombe and Stockport loanee has again been told his time at Portman Road is up.

Cambridge boss Jimmy Quinn said: "Jez George [Cambridge's head of youth development] made me aware that he was being released by Ipswich and we moved in to have a look at him.

"He has a good pedigree and he comes highly recommended, and he's a big strong lad.

"He's had a knee operation and Ipswich have decided he's now surplus to requirements, so we'll take a look at him for the next month and see how he does."

Collins's younger brother Jordan is a youth player at the Abbey Stadium.

The final day of the transfer window is likely to be a quiet one at Portman Road, aside from one or two loan moves, while Darren Currie is expected to complete a switch to Millwall.
