Boss Jim Magilton singled out skipper Jason De Vos for praise after the Blues' 2-0 victory at Luton. Magilton was pleased with the overall performance in difficult conditions.

Magilton said: “It was pretty lively, but the importance of the three points overrode everything else for us today. It was a gritty performance, and we got our just rewards.

"They were difficult conditions and the pitch didn't allow us to pass the ball as we would have liked, but it was a massive win for us.

"We needed to follow up the performance at Preston in midweek and we did that and deserved the points.

"We knew that Luton would come at us, given their position in the table, and we had to stand up to that, stick together and come through it, and we did that.

"There was a real determination to get a result and I'm delighted for the players and the staff that we came up with the victory.

"It was real team effort with some good performances, but I have to pick out Jason De Vos for his display. He had a cut in his mouth and needed stitches but there was no way he wanted to come off. He was immense and epitomised everything about us.

"The fans were terrific and lifted the players I think the players lifted the fans as well."

Magilton says he expects Sylvain Legwinski, who limped off during the first half, to be fit for the game with Plymouth in a fortnight: "He has taken a knock on his foot but we have a two-week break now, so I expect him to be fit for the Plymouth game at the end of the month."

Luton caretaker-manager Brian Stein said he feels his club's fans have unrealistic expectations: "We have always been a selling club. The club is losing £2 million per year.

"They get a perception that we are one of the big boys, but we are not. We get gates of 6,000 or 7,000.

"We are expected to compete with clubs like Derby, Wolves, Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland, but we can't. We are Luton Town. We can't spend £2 million or £3 million on one player."

Luton midfielder Steve Robinson confronted a critical fan at the end of the game but says he merely asked the supporter what he had said to him as he made his way to the tunnel: "He is entitled to his opinion. I asked him what he said.

"I am passionate and I want to win. He is passionate and he wants to win. We are in this together."
