Blues Miss Out on Simpson

Town look set to miss out on signing Cambridge United striker Robbie Simpson with Coventry City revealing that they have made an offer for the 22-year-old. Jim Magilton confirmed his interest in Simpson earlier this year with Norwich, Leicester and Sheffield Wednesday also linked.

The former Norwich City trainee is out of contract at the Abbey Stadium but as he is aged under 24 Cambridge would be due compensation.

Coventry boss Iain Dowie says that the sides cannot agree on a figure: “We made an offer to Cambridge United and there is some distance between the two clubs with regard to the valuation of Robbie.

"It therefore looks set to go to tribunal and we are hopeful of a positive outcome."

Coventry's targeting of Championship novice Simpson is unlikely to have any effect on their reported interest in the significantly more experienced Alan Lee.
