Jim: No Williams Interest
Jim: No Williams Interest

Boss Jim Magilton has denied reports yesterday linking Gavin Williams with Birmingham City. The Town manager says he has heard from no other clubs regarding the madcap midfielder.

Magilton says the Wales international will be offered new terms once he is over his ongoing pelvic problem: “We have not had a single offer for Gavin and he is still very much part of our plans. Once he gets fit and well and playing games then we will open negotiations."

Silly string now appears to be the substance Williams sprayed on to team-mate Ian Miller's Audi TT last week, causing a reported £3,000 of damage. Magilton has confirmed that Williams has paid for the repairs: “It was meant to be harmless fun and once Gavin realised that he immediately made amends.

“Gavin, to his credit, paid for the damage. It was one of those things and we just move on.”

Reports in Hull say talks are still ongoing between the Blues and Tigers regarding Alan Lee's proposed move to the KC Stadium. Hull had two bids turned down last week and are apparently unwilling to increase their offer above the £600,000 Town refused last Friday.

A deal for Sheffield United's Christian Nade has collapsed and manager Phil Brown has now begun talks with former Bolton man Henrik Pedersen.

Brown says this move doesn't end his attempts to sign Lee: "We're looking for bit of pace in the team and want to add some stature to the frontline. If that comes in the shape of one player, I would suggest it would be a lot of money. If it comes in the shape of two strikers then so be it.

“If we can afford to stretch the purse strings for two strikers, then we'll sign two strikers. I'm always looking to improve squad and if we think we can improve the squad we'll bring them in."

Lewis Price seems no nearer a move out of Portman Road with no bids on the table just an enquiry, presumably from Derby County, who were strongly linked earlier in the week.

Price may be given a run-out at Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday, after being rested for the Blues' previous pre-season games.

Town's youngsters are attracting the attention of lower division managers keen to add them to their squads on a loan basis. Blues legend Terry Butcher, now manager at Brentford, was among those watching the friendly at Chelmsford earlier in the week.

The likes of Chris Casement, Liam Trotter, Jordan Rhodes, Sammy Moore, Michael Synnott, Billy Clarke and others could make short-term moves to gain first team experience when the season starts.

Meanwhile, former Blue Kieron Dyer is said to be close to moving from Newcastle to West Ham. Town would get a sell-on if the fee was in excess of £6.5 million but it seems likely that the England international will be sold for rather less, with £4 million quoted in some papers.

Elsewhere, Cork City striker Roy O'Donovan, who Jim Magilton confirmed he had watched on a number of occasions in January, looks set to join Fulham. Cork have accepted bids understood to be in the region of £300,000 plus add-ons from the Cottagers and Southend.
