U18s Draw, U16s Win
U18s Draw, U16s Win
Saturday, 8th Sep 2007 18:49

A strong Town U18 side drew 1-1 with Coventry City at Playford Road on Saturday morning. Jordan Rhodes netted the Blues' goal.

Tommy Smith returned from England U17 duty, while Kurt Robinson and Reggie Lambe were also back in the squad after injuries.

A quiet first half produced few chances for either side. The second period was a fiery encounter though, not helped by Coventry's wild celebrations after their goal on 66 minutes.

Town kept going, however, and sub Jordan Rhodes headed the Blues back on level terms after a deep cross from Joe Clemo in the 76th minute.

Both sides had chances to win the game with Lewis Ward making some fine saves in the Town goal, and the Blues themselves were unlucky on a number of occasions.

Jai Reason had an unusually quiet game in midfield, but Tommy Smith and Paul Watson both looked solid at the back for Town.

Town U18s: Ward, Clemo, Robinson, C Williams, Fenn, Smith, Watson, Reason, Ainsley (Rhodes 46), Murphy (Calver 84) and Tooms (Lambe 71). Unused: Plummer and Barrett.

Town's U16 side recorded the first win of their league season against their Coventry counterparts on Saturday morning. Goals from Charlie Matthews, Ronan Murray, Billy Clark and Dan Easlea secured a 4-1 win for the Blues.

Town U16s: Traveller, Austin, Dunbar, Roe, Whittaker, Hyam, Brown, Clark, Matthews, Murray and Eastman. Subs: Wickham, Hewitt, Capocci, Easlea and Pavett.
