Duo Receive Galicia Calls
Duo Receive Galicia Calls
Wednesday, 5th Dec 2007 16:13

Town duo Pablo Couñago and Sito have been called into a Galicia squad playing a friendly with Cameroon in Vigo on December 27th. Both the Blues' Galicians are likely to be withdrawn due to the clash with the domestic Christmas fixtures.

Galicia, the autonomous area in the north-west of Spain, has long argued that they should be allowed to field an international team instead of their players representing Spain.

At present they only play friendly games and in recent years have scheduled a fixture over the Christmas period when there are no Spanish league matches.

Sito was forced to withdraw from the squad when he was last picked in 2005, while Couñago was involved during his time playing in Spain.

Squad: Roberto Fernández (Sporting de Gijón), Queco Piña (Racing de Ferrol), Michel Salgado (Real Madrid), Iago Bouzón (Recreativo), Piscu (Deportivo), Francisco Noguerol (Albacete), Rubén González (Celta), Antonio Barragán (Deportivo), Jonathan Aspas (Piacenza), Roberto Lago (Celta), Sito (Ipswich Town), Borja Fernández (Valladolid), Emilio Viqueira (Levante), Roberto Trashorras (Las Palmas), Jonathan Vila (Celta), Nano (Cádiz), Iago Iglesias (Elche), Pablo Alvarez (Deportivo), Julio Alvarez (Numancia), Diego Castro (Sporting de Gijón), Jonathan Pereira (Racing de Ferrol), Pablo Couñago (Ipswich Town), Nacho Novo (Glasgow Rangers).
