Lambe Set to Become Youngest Town International
Lambe Set to Become Youngest Town International

Academy midfielder Reggie Lambe is set to become Town's youngest ever full international when Bermuda take on St Kitts and Nevis in two friendlies this weekend.

Bermuda play St Kitts and Nevis on Friday and then again on Sunday and if, as expected, 16-year-old Lambe is involved, he will become the youngest Blue to be capped at full international level, beating Jaime Peters, who was 18 when he won his first Canada cap as a Town player.

Lambe, formerly with Bermudian club the Dandy Town Hornets, first came to the club's attention after being recommended by a friend of director Holly Bellingham and joined the academy as a full-time scholar in the summer.

One of the stars of last week's 5-3 FA Youth Cup victory at QPR, Lambe told a Bermudian newspaper that he is looking forward to his first international appearance: "I'm very excited as this is my first call-up to the senior national team.

"It gives me a chance to come and play for my country and show Bermuda what I can do.

"I want to help push Bermuda forward and hopefully inspire more youngsters to get out and do what I'm doing in the UK, or elsewhere."

Lambe says he initially found life in England hard going: "At first it was tough at Ipswich because I really missed my family, but I'm used to it now and I'm settled.

"Things have gone well for me since I joined the academy and, although most of my games have been at that level, I've been called up for the reserves because I've been playing well.

"I've been at Ipswich since June and I feel my awareness, movement and touch have really improved. I have more confidence on the ball in terms of calling for it, getting into good positions, getting my head up and finishing.

"I guess I would describe myself as a winger, but I can play anywhere in midfield. I'm comfortable on either wing and I like to cut in, but I'm also happy going through the middle. The coach thinks I'm doing good, and I think I'm doing good as well."

At the end of last season, prior to Lambe joining the Blues on a full-time basis, academy director Tony Humes told TWTD that he had been impressed with the club's first ever Bermudian in trial spells at Playford Road: "We thought he was a very, very talented boy, but the difficulty was checking out his progress because he lives so far away.

“However, he's been over twice since and we've seen enough to offer him an apprenticeship.

"You don't know how he's going to develop, but he's got a lot of football in his feet and we've seen enough to give him the opportunity when he starts full-time with us in July."
