Plymouth Won't Sell Norris to Leicester
Plymouth Won't Sell Norris to Leicester

Plymouth boss Paul Sturrock says his club will not sell any of their players to former manager Ian Holloway's Leicester City. Earlier this week, Holloway had bids turned down for Town target David Norris and striker Barry Hayles.

Sturrock says the club are aware that Holloway has become enemy number one amongst the Home Park faithful since he left for the Walkers Stadium last month and will take heed of their feelings: "The fanbase have made it plain they would be very, very upset if any players moved to Leicester.

"At the end of the day, sometimes you have to adhere to the fans' wishes. I think it's important we draw a line through it now, otherwise this will roll on and roll on.

"Unless the offer is so good that I'm going to walk the player up the road, no one will be going to Leicester.

"Sometimes, football clubs forget the fans are the people who generate the cash for them to survive.

"If you had read some of the letters I have had over the last couple of weeks, it would be politically very unsound of this football club to sell any players to Leicester."

Holloway is reported to be ready to make renewed bids for the duo, while Crystal Palace have also been linked with Norris.

Town boss Jim Magilton made an enquiry regarding Norris in the close season and is expected to return for him in January. Southampton, whose current poor financial state appears to rule them out of the race, failed with bids of £700,000 and £1 million for the 26-year-old in the summer.

Plymouth chairman Paul Stapleton has said he will offer Norris a new contract in January. The former Bolton, Boston and Hull City man's current deal is up at the end of June 2009.

Norris joined the Pilgrims in December 2002 for £25,000 from Bolton, who as part of that deal will receive 50% of any fee Plymouth make on the Peterborough-born midfielder.
