Boss Jim Magilton felt the Blues would have beaten Burnley had the Clarets not been reduced to 10 men just before the break. The Town manager thought the sending off led Burnley to put everyone behind the ball for the entire second half.

Magilton said: "Had it stayed 11 versus 11, I could only have seen us winning.

"I haven't seen the tackle. I was on my way from the directors' box to the dressing room, so I'll reserve judgement. But it affected us more than them.

"They got a lot of men behind the ball and showed the resilience and character to get a point.

"We created some decent chances and their goalkeeper made two very good saves.

"But we weren't as sharp in the second half and, of course, it's disappointing not to win.

"It's not the end of the world though. We're still in the play-off places, are unbeaten at home this season and we will go to Leicester on Boxing Day determined to get a first win on our travels."

Magilton says Spanish full-back Sito could be a doubt for the Boxing Day game at Leicester: "Sito took a bang and was complaining of double vision, so he had to come off.

"He has been taken to hospital with concussion and it's likely he will be kept in overnight.

"We will then take guidance from our medical team, but he has not been ruled out of the Leicester game yet."

The Town manager said Jordan Rhodes had earned his debut as a late sub: "He deserved his chance and if Pablo's ball had been better weighted, then he may have had a dream debut.

"He's lively around the box and scores goals and it's another boost for the academy."

Burnley boss Owen Coyle was pleased with his side's battling performance: "Ipswich have a remarkable home record, so to come here and get a point here in normal circumstances would have been a good result.

"But to do it after having a man sent off in the first half was magnificent.

"Ipswich have some very talented individual players, but we coped admirably and relatively comfortably.

"We showed real resilience and everyone learned a lot about the spirit in this team."

Coyle felt that midfielder John Spicer had got the ball in the challenge which led to his red card just before the break: "I thought John won the ball but the referee was in a much better position than me. He was convinced it was a red card so I had to go with that."
