TWTD understands that former Newcastle United winger Laurent Robert was indeed at Portman Road watching the Blues in action against Burnley on Saturday, as reported by a TWTD Message Boarder on Sunday.

The Frenchman was spotted having lunch with coach Charlie Woods at a restaurant close to the ground prior to kick-off and we have subsequently received unofficial confirmation that the ex-Montpellier, PSG, Portsmouth, Benfica and Levante man was at the game.

Robert, who played under Woods with Newcastle during Sir Bobby Robson's time as manager at St James' Park, is currently available on a free transfer having recently left La Liga club Levante after a fall out.

Earlier this month, the 32-year-old told the French press that clubs in England have expressed an interest in him, in addition to sides in France. The left-sided dead ball expert was subsequently linked with old club Newcastle, however, Sam Allardyce is reported to have denied any interest.

Former boss George Burley tried to bring Robert to Town from PSG in the summer of 2001, however, the £10 million fee and £30,000-a-week wages on offer at Newcastle saw the Blues drop out of the race.
