Town legend Kevin Beattie looks likely to finally get a 1981 UEFA Cup winners medal after the success of a long-running petition. TWTD backed the petition, started by Rob Finch, who wrote Beattie's recent book The Greatest Footballer England Never Had, back in May.

Beattie played in every round of Town's run, but missed the final after breaking an arm in the FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City and consequently never received a medal.

The petition on the Cult Publishing website led to ex-sports minister Richard Caborn writing to UEFA president Michel Platini to back the campaign.

Recently former Town striker David Johnson was given a European Cup winners medal won during his time with Liverpool, while squad members of World Cup winning sides are also set to receive medals.

Beattie says UEFA have indicated that he will now receive his medal too: “At long last it is looking likely that I will be getting the medal and it would be brilliant for me and my family.”
