Robert Set for Talks and Werling Linked

Few mentions of Town in the Sunday tabloids, aside from various reports of the Blues' offer of a trial to former French international winger Laurent Robert. One paper claims the former Newcastle United and Portsmouth man is set for talks with Town today.

Meanwhile, Barnsley message boards are full of rumours that their German left-back Dominik Werling has left the club on a free transfer at the end of his contract with Town or Wolves claimed to be his destination.

The 25-year-old joined the Tykes on a six-month deal in the summer from Turkish side Sakaryaspor and has impressed during his spell at Oakwell.

Werling, a Roberto Carlos look-a-like, was Barnsley's stand-out performer in the recent goalless draw between the Blues and the South Yorkshire side at Portman Road.

The Ludwigshafen am Rhein-born player was left out of Barnsley's 16 for yesterday's 2-2 draw with Southampton, but speculation regarding the 5ft 8in tall full-back's future precedes his omission.

Werling started his career with Arminia Bielefeld's second team before moving on to Union Berlin, then TSV Crauksheim and Bayern Hof, prior to one season in Turkish football.

A Town move for a new left-back would not come as a surprise with boss Jim Magilton unhappy with Dan Harding's recent performances and with little natural cover on that side of the defence.
