Boss Jim Magilton hailed his side's second half performance as their best for some while. Goals from David Wright and Jason De Vos took the Blues to a 2-0 victory over top-of-the-table West Brom and up to sixth in the table.

Magilton said: “In terms of the second half, that's as well as we've played for some time.

"In the first few minutes we had one or two chances, but had a bit of a hangover from our two away games over Christmas.

"We gave them a bit too much respect. In the second half, though, we were excellent and on the balance of play deserved it.

"In a tight game we had a real go and kept a very good side quiet. Not many teams will do that this season."

Magilton was pleased with his goalscorers: "David deserved his goal and it was a great header. Then Jason, who was a real doubt beforehand through injury, scored our second. He's a real man's man and always wants to play."

The Blues boss also had praise for another of his defenders, Sito, who returned after suffering a concussion against Burnley recently: “Sito did superbly well and showed a real enthusiasm for the game."

But Magilton was happy with all his team: "I am very proud of my players after that display. They were excellent and proved themselves against the best team in the league.

"The players worked hard and showed a real desire and if you have those two characteristics then you can go a long way and the players proved that.

"It was important that we put in a good performance after the defeat at Coventry and it was always going to be a big test for us, but I had every confidence in my players and they responded fantastically well.

"It keeps the home run going and it's going to take something special for my players to let go of it."

Former Town skipper and coach Tony Mowbray felt his side weren't at their best: "We're disappointed with the result, but I'm not going to make any excuses. We were below par.

"Ipswich deserve a lot of credit because they worked extremely hard all over the pitch, especially in midfield, to stop our fluency.

"Their league record at home speaks for itself, so obviously it's a very difficult place to come to.

"We just didn't function very well on the day but now our focus is very much on winning the next game.”
