Defender Michael Synnott impressed in his first appearance for York City reserves last night as the Minstermen defeated Darlington 2-1 at Kit Kat Crescent. The Irish U21 international will play two second string games during his trial spell.

York's official site says the FA Youth Cup winner was the game's outstanding performer: "Ipswich Town trialist Michael Synnott was perhaps City's best player, looking sharp and full of running.

"He also showed his versatility switching from left to right-back at half-time."

Synnott is likely to be available on a free transfer with his Town contract up at the end of the season.
