Lee Bid “Acceptable”

Town boss Jim Magilton has said that Burnley's £900,000 offer for Alan Lee is “acceptable”, according to one of Sunday's tabloids. Reports in the North-West on Friday claimed the fee had been agreed, while yesterday Town denied that any move was close.

Magilton is said to have confirmed that the Clarets' bid has met Town's valuation: "I always listen to any bids for my players. Burnley's appears to be acceptable."

Lee himself is unlikely to want to move to the North-West as he is very settled on the Suffolk-Essex border and was delighted to sign a new contract in the summer aimed at keeping him at Portman Road until 2009.

The Republic of Ireland striker, who was previously at Turf Moor between 1999 and 2000, was left on the bench at Bloomfield Road by was introduced during the second half. The Clarets want Lee as a replacement for Town target Andy Gray, who joined Charlton Athletic on Friday.

Elsewhere, Town are reported to have once again watched Dundee United, as the Terrors defeated Aberdeen 3-0 at Tannadice on Saturday. Jim Magilton has denied any interest in midfielder Barry Robson, who scored twice yesterday, while keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski, previously linked with the Blues, wasn't in the line-up.

Meanwhile, the Blues will reportedly pay Sheffield United £300,000 to make Alan Quinn's move from Bramall Lane a permanent switch. Quinn joined the Blues on an emergency loan basis on Friday while the clubs complete the paperwork relating to the deal.

Quinn's former manager Neil Warnock is said to have been keen on taking the 28-year-old to Crystal Palace and Jim Magilton was keen to get the Republic of Ireland international at Portman Road as soon as possible in order to avoid losing him to the Eagles.

This week's Danny Haynes links are with West Ham and Derby County. The Premier League duo are reported to have watched the England U19 international in action on a number of occasions. Last week, boss Jim Magilton, perhaps semi-seriously, put a £5 million valuation on the 20-year-old.
