Boss Jim Magilton called on his players to use Saturday's victory at Sheffield Wednesday as a springboard as they go into the last few months of the season. The first away win in 11 months took Town up to sixth in the table.

Magilton said: "Our general play in the first half was good. In the second half we had to dig in, but I thought we deserved the three points.

"We've got to use this as a springboard now for bigger and better things. I believe we can go on a run and get in the play-offs."

Magilton was particularly impressed with midfielder Alan Quinn, who scored his first goal for the Blues against his old club: "It was a great strike from Alan. When I knew I could get him, I wanted him at the football club because he has great desire."

The Town manager also full of praise for the club's away supporters: "I want to thank the fans for sticking with us.

"It's been a long time coming, but they have always been there for us and it was great to see the ovation at the end from the supporters.

"We have not given them much to cheer on our travels, so it was fantastic to see them celebrating at the end.

"We are back in the top six and I have said to the players that we push on from here and use it as a platform to go on a run."

Town gave debuts to three of this week's signings and Magilton was happy with their displays: "I was pleased with the new lads. David Norris should have been awarded a penalty, Stephen Bywater did well in goal and Schumy had his first taste of English football.

“When he gets used the pace of the game over here he is going to be a very good acquisition for this football club."

Wednesday boss Brian Laws felt his side began the game slowly and didn't get much better: "Conceding the early goal put us on the back foot. We started sluggishly and continued that way, which is very disappointing.

"The energy and drive we had a few weeks ago was spot on, but today we were flat. We're in trouble at the bottom and we need to improve. We've got to get that spark back."
