Owen Garvan and Billy Clarke won Irish U21 caps as their side lost 3-0 to England at Southampton in a European Championships qualifier on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, academy midfielder Ed Upson was in action for the England U19s.

Garvan, who was winning his fourth cap at this level, played the full 90 minutes and was hugely impressive in the Irish midfield, while Clarke, who now has six U21 caps, was replaced after 64 minutes.

Keeper Shane Supple, who like Billy Clarke has joined Falkirk on loan until the end of the season, was an unused substitute. Also in the Irish side was midfielder Stephen Quinn, younger brother of new Town signing Alan.

Upson won his fourth England U19 cap as he came on as a 79th minute sub as his team defeated Croatia 1-0 at Swindon in a friendly.

Wednesday sees more Town players in with a chance of international action. Alex Bruce received a late call into the Irish senior squad for their friendly with Brazil at Croke Park. If he plays, the central defender will pick up his second full cap.

New Macedonian signing Velice Sumulikoski is expected to win his 47th senior cap in a friendly against Serbia in Skopje.

Defender Chris Casement will be in European U21 Championship qualifier action when Northern Ireland take on Israel.
