Boss Jim Magilton says he expects to hear whether David Nugent wants to join the Blues on loan next week. Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp revealed yesterday afternoon that he had left the decision to the former Preston man.

Magilton said: “It is up to the player, firstly whether he wants to come and secondly whether he is over his current injury. It will probably be next week before we find out.

“I am still chasing a central defensive addition to the squad and that will also wait a few days now before we know any further. If we can bring in a player or two to give us the quality to cross the line that will take us to the Premier League, then that will be ideal.”

Nugent is expected to be back in training on Monday or Tuesday of next week after suffering a groin injury in training earlier in the week.

The emergency loan window, which opened earlier in the month, allows teams to sign players for up to 93 days.

Today is 93 days from the scheduled date of the play-off final on Saturday, May 24th, although there is a possibility that the match may move to the Bank Holiday Monday two days later. The Football League are holding a meeting to discuss the date next week.

With this in mind, it is likely Championship sides will wait until Monday before confirming any deals.
