Boss Jim Magilton says he has been keeping an eye on new loanee Danny Simpson for much of the season before finally signing him yesterday. The Town manager is keen to increase the competition in his squad for the final few games.

Magilton told the club site: "We have been tracking Danny this season and I've been keen to bring him in on loan for a while.

"I spoke with Sir Alex Ferguson on Thursday and he said he would be happy for the lad to come here.

"Danny made it clear he is keen to join us and play first team football and I'm delighted we have been able to make the loan happen. He will add some quality to the squad and hopefully help take us where we want to be.

"His arrival will add to the competition for places into the team and that is something we need all over the park if we are to be successful."

Simpson met up with the rest of the squad last night and may be a sub at Scunthorpe today as he is yet to train with his new team-mates.
