Manchester United right-back Danny Simpson would cost the Blues £1.5 million if they want to sign him permanently, according to reports. Simpson spent the last few weeks of the season on loan at Portman Road and is set to leave Old Trafford over the summer.

Town are said to have already spoken to United manager Sir Alex Ferguson about the 21-year-old's availability as Jim Magilton looks to strengthen his options at full-back for the new season.

Sunderland, Wigan and Birmingham have all previously been linked with moves for Simpson, who is contracted to United until 2010, while Aston Villa are also thought to be keen. Town are likely to stand little chance of landing the Salford-born defender if a Premier League side firms up their reported interest.
