![]() Wednesday, 14th May 2008 08:30 Two former Blues could have UEFA Cup winners medals by the end of today. Neil Alexander is in action for Rangers in tonight's final with Zenit St Petersburg, while at half-time Kevin Beattie will finally receive a medal in honour of Town's victory over AZ Alkmaar in 1981. Alexander is set to continue in goal for the SPL giants at the City of Manchester Stadium with first choice Allan McGregor still sidelined with injury. Beattie played in 12 of Town's ties during the 1980/81 season but missed the final victory over AZ Alkmaar due to a broken arm. However, after a campaign which included a petition set up by Cult Publishing, the people behind last year's autobiography, UEFA agreed to mint the central defender a medal. News that the crusade had been successful first broke late last year. UEFA president Michel Platini, who played for St Etienne against the Blues during the 1981 run, will present Beattie with his medal, something which has delighted the former England international: "Some friends started a campaign to get me a medal. The fact that Michel Platini wants to hand it over himself makes it even more special.â€Â
