Colchester Set for Portman Road Home Game?
Colchester Set for Portman Road Home Game?

Colchester United could play a home game at Portman Road early next season, according to a report this afternoon. The U's are due to move to their new Cuckoo Farm stadium at the start of next season, but it may not be completed in time to stage all of their 2008/09 fixtures.

If the U's were to draw a home tie in the first round of the Carling Cup then they would probably be unable to play the match at Cuckoo Farm. Talks are said to be at an early stage with the Blues, although an alternative plan is to play the potential tie at the away side's ground.

The U's have already had permission to play their first League One game of the season away from home.

In January 2007, with the U's close to a Championship play-off place, Town and Colchester spoke about the possibility of Geraint Williams's men playing home games at Portman Road if they won promotion to the Premier League.
