Town Face Fights for Summer Targets

Town look likely to face fights for two of their summer targets with West Brom linked with a move for Richard Wright and QPR understood to be showing interest in Leicester City defender Gareth McAuley.

Former Town skipper Tony Mowbray knows Wright well from their spell at Portman Road together and is reported to want him as his new goalkeeper when his Baggies side return to the Premier League in August.

Wright was close to joining the Blues after leaving Everton last summer, but eventually signed for West Ham. After Neil Alexander left for Rangers in January, former Town keeper-coach Andy Rhodes made a trip to watch Wright playing for the Hammers' reserves, prior to the twice-capped England glovesman impressing in a loan spell at Southampton.

McAuley was one of Jim Magilton's main targets during January but the Town boss failed to land the 6ft 3in tall centre-half despite making a number of offers. The Northern Irishman looks certain to leave the relegated Foxes this summer, despite signing a new deal earlier in the year.

Rumours in the Midlands claim the contract contains a clause allowing the 28-year-old to leave for a pre-agreed fee now that Leicester have dropped out of the Championship.
