Town Face Competition for Griffiths?

Town are facing competition from another club for the signature of Dagenham and Redbridge full-back Scott Griffiths, according to a report this morning. TWTD first revealed the Blues' interest in the 22-year-old on Monday.

The Essex-born left-sided defender or midfielder is believed to be aware of Town's interest and that of the second club. Leeds United are thought to be that side according to rumours amongst Daggers fans, while Southampton and Charlton were reported to have watched the former Aveley player in action during a League Two game with the MK Dons in March.

Town are likely to be able to outbid any of those clubs for Griffiths - who was second in Dagenham's Player of the Year awards this season behind veteran keeper Tony Roberts - and would also be able to offer higher wages.

Griffiths, a teetotaller, joined the Daggers from Aveley back in 2004 and his contract has another year left to run. A move to a bigger club has been expected for some time and Dagenham are unlikely to stand in his way.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United striker Danny Webber has again been linked with the Blues. Town were previously mentioned in connection with the 26-year-old in February when Crystal Palace, managed by former Blades boss Neil Warnock, were also said to be ready top move for the ex-Watford and Manchester United frontman.

Town are likely to move for two strikers this summer with released Manchester City striker Emile Mpenza amongst Jim Magilton's top targets, while Leeds frontman Jermaine Beckford, Fulham's David Healy, Levante's Rahamat ‘Riga' Mustapha are amongst the other attackers linked.

Elsewhere, former scouts Romeo Zondervan and Simon Hunt are the latest names to be linked with the Blues' international scouting role. Zondervan has been working as an agent in Holland since leaving his scouting job with the Blues in 2002, while Hunt left a coaching role with West Brom in December after only seven months in the post, having previously held scouting positions at Southampton and Derby, where he again worked with ex-Town boss George Burley.
