Newcastle Reports Say Ameobi Bid Has Collapsed

Reports in the North-East claim Town's bid to sign Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has collapsed. Earlier in the week, the Blues were reported to have had an offer of an initial £2 million rising to £3.5 million accepted by the Magpies.

However, Ameobi is claimed to have been unwilling to commit to the switch and Town are said to be ready to look elsewhere for a new striker. On Wednesday, the 26-year-old was reported to be waiting for Premier League interest to materialise before he made a decision on whether to make the move south and that hesitancy is believed to have ended Town's interest in signing the former England U21 international.

The Blues refused to comment on links with Ameobi on Monday, but there have been a string of reports from the North-East throughout the week as the story has progressed.

Local rivals Norwich City are also believed to be interested, while Ameobi turned down a move to former loan club Stoke City earlier in the summer.
