Magilton: No Stoke Offer for Walters
Magilton: No Stoke Offer for Walters

Boss Jim Magilton has finally commented on the widespread reports of Stoke interest in striker Jon Walters. The Blues boss says Town have received no offers for the former Chester City man.

Magilton said: "We have not had an offer for Jon. I'm not surprised he is of interest to other clubs, but we are in a position where we don't have to sell anyone.

”We are trying to get to the next level and we have the nucleus of the squad to add to. He has had a meteoric rise. In the one full season he has been with us he has been outstanding and a player we feel can take us to the next level.”

The Walters-Stoke story appeared throughout the national press last weekend with the move claimed to be all but done. Even this morning one of the tabloids claims Town will have to sell Walters to Stoke raise cash, something which is clearly nonsense in the wake of Marcus Evans's takeover. Owen Garvan, who is still to sign his new contract, is also claimed to be on his way to Birmingham in that report.

In addition to Magilton's comments on Walters, the 24-year-old is said to have told fans that there is nothing in the story after Friday's game at Brentford, according to posts on the TWTD Message Board.

Magilton has also confirmed that Town's attempt to sign German keeper Simon Jentzsch is now over after the Wolfsburg stopper turned down the Blues' offer, as revealed by TWTD yesterday.

Trialist Adam Green will not be offered a contract and was in action for Wycombe Wanderers in their friendly with Flackwell Heath.

Honduran international left-sided full-back or midfielder Emilio Izaguirre is on his way from Central America today. Magilton says he is yet to decide whether to take the 22-year-old on next week's tour of Belfast.

Elsewhere, Jermaine Wright has completed his move from Southampton to Blackpool, signing a one-year deal with the Seasiders.
