Boss Jim Magilton slammed his team's performance against Wolves as "embarrassing” after the visitors ran out easy 2-0 victors against a lacklustre Town side.

Magilton said: "It was embarrassing at times. Wolves played with pace, dictated the tempo and we were well beaten by the better side.

"We didn't start well and they capitalised on our sloppiness. We kept giving them possession and you just can't afford to do that against such a decent side as Wolves.

"We didn't show any work ethic and it was so different from last Saturday, when we had to roll our sleeves up and compete.

"We have to show a willingness to do the fundamental things in a game. They did it better than us and we couldn't get any kind of foothold.

"It took us 38 minutes to have our first shot at goal and that's not good enough, and it's certainly not good enough at home.

"This result certainly hastens the search for new players. Maybe one or two of the lads have outlived their days here.

"If we think teams are going to come here and just allow us to play, then that is very naïve. I'm not naïve and my players better not be either.

"We didn't get our front players on the ball, the midfield was second best and I felt sorry for the defence because they had to deal with wave after wave of attacks.

"We were better for 20 minutes in the second half and Pablo brightened us up a bit. He has the quality but he has to work harder for the team. It's not about the name on the back of the shirt, it's about the badge on the front.

"I can't really complain about the red card for Alex. If you leave the ground with two feet in the air, you are going to get a red card. He got a lot of the ball and there we no real complaints from their players, but challenges like that are now getting red cards."

Magilton singled out Danny Haynes for criticism in his post-match radio interview and apologised to Liam Trotter for leaving him out of the side to make way for the former England U19 international.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy was unsurprisingly well pleased with the result and performance: "Our goalkeeper hardly had a save to make and they didn't have many chances," said McCarthy.

"It was important to keep a clean sheet at some stage and much of the credit has to go to Richard Stearman and Neill Collins.

"Collins, especially, is much maligned at times but certainly deserves a special mention.

"It was a good team effort but I was especially pleased with the back four."

"I enjoyed it - it was a good performance. We deserved to win and I don't think anyone can argue with that. We came here last year and played very well, yet got slapped 3-0."
