Midfielder Owen Garvan scored his third Republic of Ireland U21s goal in two games but also missed a penalty as his side won 3-0 in Lithuania this afternoon.

Garvan, who was winning his seventh U21 cap, came close to scoring with a header just before half-time and was presented with an even better opportunity in the 53rd minute after the referee awarded a penalty for handball. However, Lithuania keeper Vytautas Cerniauska saved his spotkick.

The 20-year-old added his side's third goal in the 88th minute with a curler from the edge of the area having picked up the ball on the Ireland right.

Republic of Ireland U21s: Shane Redmond (Stephen Henderson 46) Seamus Coleman, Ian Bermingham, Michael Spillane (Darren Dennehy 89), Eddie Nolan (capt), Sean Scannell (Padraig Amond 67), Owen Garvan, Stephen Gleeson, Jimmy Ryan (James Berrett 75), James O'Shea, Anthony Pilkington (Michael Liddle 83).
